Go Audio Awesome #9

October 31st, 2016

We wrap up BALLERPALOOZA! with a good ole'-fashioned two-man podcast.  It's just Pat and Adam, talking about basketball as if they know something about it.  Our consensus: Iowa might not be quite as good this year, but it's all good!  No, seriously, it's fine.  There's a boatload of young talent on this team trying to find its way, and Peter Jok might score 30 a game while they find the path.

Iowa. Wisconsin. Yards in threes. Dust in clouds. Bowlsby-castrated bull trophies. And our annual talk with Jake Kocorowski (@JakeKocoB5Q), editor of Bucky's 5th Quarter. It goes long, as it almost always does.

It's OMHR Week, and while it's the most important rivalry game of the year for both teams, football is taking a backseat for the eighth consecutive season because at least one of the teams is garbage.  Which one?  Listen to our discussion of life as a Purdue fan with Aneesh Ramaswamy (@aneeshswamy) from Boiled Sports (@BoiledSports) to find out!  We talk about how a team that rushes for ten yards in a game can somehow still win time of possession, where P.J. Fleck should coach next year, and what an end zone DJ would do with the World's Biggest Drum.  Basically, it's everything but a preview of the actual game.  I promise you'll love it.

Sure, it's just Northwestern, and sure, they're 1-3 on the season, but that doesn't mean there shouldn't be a preview podcast.  So we talk with Kevin Trahan (@k_trahan), former founder of Inside NU and current contributor at Vice Sports and The Comeback, about what has gone so wrong so fast in Evanston and whether Pat Fitzgerald is feeling some heat.

It's North Dakota State Week, and while it might be the most difficult game of the non-conference slate, it's also not the easiest game to podcast.  So instead, we talk with our friend Rick Brown (@ByRickBrown) about C.J. Beathard's place in Iowa quarterback history and his memories of Bob Brooks.  Then, we discuss Penn State's loss to Pitt and Wilco's new record with Chris Grovich (@RLRblog) of Roar Lions Roar, our PSU sister site.  It's a hodgepodge, to be sure, but it's entertaining nonetheless.

Yes, it's Cy-Hawk Week, but it's also a week full of news, so we went to our favorite columnist for answers.  Mike Hlas (@Hlas) of the Gazette and the Mike Hlas Podcast is here to discuss the Kirk Ferentz contract, the viability of the Iowa State series, and the prospects of another trip to Indianapolis.

It's that one week a year where Iowa gets a taste of MACtion, so we talk with Ball State Superfan Alan Rucker, proprietor of Hustle Belt and former mind behind Over the Pylon,  It was his birthday.  We were his wish.

You know the drill: It's the penultimate week of the offseason, which means it's time to discuss the philosophy of Iowa football with Marc Morehouse (@marcmorehouse) of The Gazette and the On Iowa Podcast.  It's what we would have done if we had a podcast before last week.

You didn't think we'd forget about doing a podcast, did you?  Because the newly-retooled Go Audio Awesome podcast is back and...well, about the same as ever.  But at least we have a good guest: Chad Leistikow (@ChadLeistikow) from the Des Moines Register joined us Monday night to talk about some depth chart issues, C.J. Beathard's injury status, and why he thinks Iowa is going to lose to freaking Minnesota.

It's an annual tradition: The BHGP Wrestlemania Preview Podcast.  And with the biggest show of the year just two days away, there's no time like the present to talk pro graps.  We're joined, as always, by BHGP commenter Smokin' Herb Grigsby, and we talked for a long, long time.  Enjoy.
